Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Remember that amazing whole wheat bread recipe?  This is how I throw in a few add-ins to make it a perfect breakfast (or anytime!) treat.

Start by reading through my tips for making the whole wheat bread.  At the point where you divide the dough into three loaves (step 3), take one of the piles of dough and spread it on a floured surface (go ahead and put the other two in their bread pans).

Roll it out with a rolling pin until it is roughly twice the length of your bread pan.  Don’t worry that the dough is getting flat, it will rise again just fine.

Spread about 2 1/2 tablespoons of softened (but not melted) butter on the top of the dough, the whole way to the edges.  I just use my fingers to do this.

Combine 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a bowl.  Sprinkle it all over the buttered dough.

Measure out a 1/3 cup of raisins and a 1/3 cup of walnut pieces.  Sprinkle them all over the dough as well.

This is what the dough looks like with the add-ins on it.

Roll the dough up from the bottom so it makes a long roll.  Bend the dough in half, and place it into your bread pan.  Then, let it rise and bake along with your other loaves.

This is how the dough looks after it has risen. Look at how its folded in half in the pan.

When you cut it in half, it will have two little swirls in the middle with delicious cinnamon, sugar, raisins and walnuts throughout.  Perfect with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee!

Ready to eat!
