Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate – 2025 Color of the Year

Benjamin Moore announced their newest choice for Color of the Year. It is 2113-40 Cinnamon Slate.

Cinnamon Slate is somewhat of a surprising choice for the Color of the Year designation. While the name might make you think of a reddish or orange color, Cinnamon Slate is actually more of a purple paint color.

Benjamin Moore describes Cinnamon Slate as a, “delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown (that) offers enduring style and a modern sensibility.”

Let’s unpack that statement a little bit.

What Color is Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate?

Heathered plum is another way to say that it is a grayish purple shade. It isn’t too bright. Instead, Cinnamon Slate has a shady look to it from the gray undertone. In addition, there is a bit of brown in the paint color that gives it a more neutral appearance than your average purple paint color.

So, just calling Cinnamon Slate a purple paint color really doesn’t do it justice.

In fact, if you put it with most purples, it probably wouldn’t coordinate very well.

So what could you put Cinnamon Slate with? Let’s take a look at colors that go with Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate.

Cinnamon Slate Coordinating Colors

Cinnamon Slate is part of Benjamin Moore’s Color Preview Collection. The Color Preview Collection came out after the original Benjamin Moore Fan Deck, and each shade is part of a set of paint colors that are all perfectly coordinating.

I spoke with a Benjamin Moore rep once and she told me that all of the paint colors on each color strip in the Color Preview Collection were just lighter and darker versions of each other. This means that each of them will coordinate perfectly together.

The other colors on the Cinnamon Slate color strip are:

  • Antique Pearl 2113-70
  • Porcelain 2113-60
  • Mauve Desert 2113-50
  • Bison Brown 2113-30
  • Pine Cone Brown 2113-20
  • Chocolate Sundae 2113-10

If you don’t want to use a brown or purple shade as a coordinating color for Cinnamon Slate, don’t worry.

Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate also goes with off-whites, like grays or creams, soft muted pinks, and some greens.

Sherwin Williams’ created a palette of colors that coordinate with Benjamin Moore. They include:

  • Sea Salt (the Benjamin Moore Sea Salt, not the Sherwin Williams Sea Salt)
  • Leather Brown Saddle
  • Chowning’s Brown
  • Tissue Pink
  • Stained Glass
  • Ashwood Moss
  • Rosepine
  • Paris Rain
  • Glacier White
Coordinating Colors for Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate

Remember that Cinnamon Slate can shift between a plum and a brown color depending on what you have it paired with. Knowing this will help you decide what coordinating colors you may like.

If you want to play up the purple undertones, try pairing Cinnamon Slate with gold metals or orange accents.

If you prefer your Cinnamon Slate walls to look a bit more neutral, you can utilize cooler lighter and other plum accents to give it a more balanced look.

Where Can I Use Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate?

Cinnamon Slate is a paint color that I would probably reserve for an individual room in most people’s homes. Due to its difficulty with pairing with other shades, isn’t great for an all over the house color.

But, in a single room, it is a color that can bring a cozy warmth and an elevated look.

Personally, I like Cinnamon Slate in a room like a study or small sitting room.

Since Cinnamon Slate is a mid-tone paint color, it has a bit of depth to it. In a dark room, it will look muted and perhaps a bit dingy. So be sure to have adequate lighting to ensure that Cinnamon Slate looks its best.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Benjamin Moore’s pick for the 2025 Color of the Year?

I was a bit surprised when I first saw Cinnamon Slate, but I definitely do like it. It has both a luxurious and comfortable quality that make it fairly usable for a purple paint color.
