  1. Hi! I love your ideas! Have you ever reviewed Anew Gray, #7030? It is a shade darker than Agreeable Gray.
I used it to paint my family room, with Imcredible white trim. I think I see blue in Anew Gray! Thoughts!

    1. Hi Janet! Thank you for commenting! Here is my review of Anew Gray. I can see why you see blue in Anew Gray – lighting can make a big difference in the way paint colors appear! I’ll bet your family room looks gorgeous with the Incredible White trim!

  2. Hello,
I am trying to paint my family room which u can see from our big kitchen that has lots of windows. I have medium oak cabinets and oak floors too. My counter top is a Baltic Brown. I haven’t painted in years and trying to update and choose colors for resale in a few years. My kitchen and family room can be seen by both rooms when in there. Right now my house is very earthly. Lots of gold colors for walls and a accent wall in family room that is green. Help is needed for sure…

    1. Hi Anita! If you’re looking to paint your home to sell, you should paint it a greige or white. Both are very in style, and both are the go-to shades for homes on the market. With your floors and cabinets, Agreeable Gray would be a great choice for a greige. If you like white better, you should check out White Dove or Alabaster. These soft whites go with most everything. I hope this helps! I know that neither choice is necessarily exciting, but they’re perfect shades that go with anything and will really update the look of your space. Take care!

  3. Hi Lauren,
I have just come across your site and love all your ideas and reviews for current paint colors. I just read your review of Anew gray. I am in the process of painting my foyer and dining room (directly off foyer) with Anew Gray and I really like this warm gray color. My house faces southeast (slightly more south). The back of my house (open kitchen into family room and back hall to a bathroom) I painted Agreeable Gray two summers ago. I decided to paint the front of the house one depth darker with the Anew gray because of high ceilings of foyer. For the most part, I believe they blend ok, although I have read since that these colors next to each other don’t always work. I am finding these two together to be ok since Anew is in the front and Agreeable in the back; mostly bc they look like the same color the time of day and depending on how the sunlight hits the walls. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think I was ok to go a shade darker where my house gets the most sun? And my last question is how you think Navy pairs with Anew gray? My furniture includes a lot of neutrals, but I do like a pop of navy in some rooms. I used a bit of Navy in the back of the house with Agreeable Gray on the walls. The front of my house also has a “touch” of navy and trying to determine how a navy matted picture and Navy and white chair will work also with the darker version, Anew Gray. Any comments you have time to share, I would appreciate. You write how Anew gray is very neutral, but not as versatile as other medium warm grays and a bit more limiting with matching to certain colors. I’d love to get your thoughts on Navy with Anew Gray and which colors you think I should stay away from next to the Anew gray? Many thanks!!

    1. Hi Rebecca! Thank you! So here’s the skinny on Anew Gray and Agreeable Gray. So, they are right next to eachother on the color strip, which makes most people think that they are just a lighter or darker version of eachother. But, the truth is, they’re not. They have different undertones and are actually completely different colors. That is why you’ve read that they don’t always work right next to eachother. Now, in the case of your home, you don’t have them right next to eachother. You have them in different rooms, with different lighting. So I think that they probably work fine (and it sounds like you like how they look!). And I think it was a great idea to paint the sunnier room with the high ceilings a darker color. Last, I think Anew Gray will go well with navy. I would steer away from putting Anew Gray with very cool colors, such as a bright or pale blue, but navy will act more as a neutral in the room than an accent color, so it’ll be fine!

  4. Hi Lauren,
We have chosen the color Gray Marble (Sherwin Williams) for our open concept family, dining and kitchen area for our new build. I want to use Nantucket Dune for the master bedroom. What coordinating color can you suggest for the master bath and other wing of the house. The office in the other wing will be Gray Marble (husbands choice).

    1. Hi Melinda! I am going to assume that Gray Marble is actually Gray Matters with an autocorrect :). I like Filmy Green and Sleepy Blue with Gray Matters. For Nantucket Dune, I like Steamed Milk and Silvermist. Good luck!

  5. We are looking at painting the exterior of our new home with SW Granite Peak and SW Pure White for the trim. I want the front door to pop and am looking at SW Cucumber. Thoughts? I need an independent expert. Thanks.

    1. Hi Janie! Such a pretty color combo! I think this will work nicely for you. If anything, I wonder if Cucumber will look a bit lighter than you’re expecting due to the bright sun. You might want to go down the color strip a bit to Jardin or Seawashed Glass if you find that Cucumber isn’t bright enough. As a tip, instead of painting the door to test the color, pick up a few sample cans at SW and paint some white poster board, or order some Samplize squares of the shades you want to test so that you know exactly how it will look on the door. Congrats on the new home!
