What Color is Benjamin Moore Silver Satin?
Silver Satin is a soft gray paint color.
While some gray paint colors can look muddy, deep, or cool, Silver Satin has a silvery sort of look to it, which is why Benjamin Moore named it as they did.
It is a very light shade that is just a bit darker than a white paint color. It is light and airy, soft and muted, and serves as an understated backdrop to your furnishings and fixed elements.
Silver Satin isn’t so light that it looks white though. It has enough color to it that it shows up with a bit of contrast next to bright white trim.
Benjamin Moore Silver Satin LRV
Silver Satin has an LRV of 75.
LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value. It basically defines how light or dark a paint color is. The LRV scale goes from 0, which is completely black, to 100, which is completely white. As you can see, Silver Satin is fairly high on the scale.
An LRV of 75 falls in the off-white range of paint colors. It has a bit of color to it, but it’s not very dark on your walls.
Silver Satin tends to look pale and subtle. It has a bit of color to it, but it is not very dark on your walls. Instead, it is an agreeable neutral backdrop for your space.
Benjamin Moore Silver Satin Undertones
All paint colors have undertones. The undertones are the shades in the paint color that make up the color look how it does. Typically, gray paint colors have blue, green, or purple undertones.
Silver Satin has purple undertones. The purple undertones are what gives Silver Satin the silvery sort of look.
The purple undertones in Silver Satin or not terribly noticeable though. You may find them coming through a little bit more and warm, southern light. But, as far as gray paint colors with purple undertones go, Silver Satin is not super purple.
In cooler, northern light, you will find that Silver Satin looks more gray.
Now, if you hate the color purple and your worst nightmare is ending up with a faint purple hue on your walls, Silver Satin is probably not the right paint color for you.
But, for the rest of you who are still on the fence, don’t count Silver Satin out yet. The best way to find out how Silver Satin will look in your home is to pick up a Samplize sheet. More on that later.
Is Benjamin Moore Silver Satin Warm or Cool?
Silver Satin is a warm gray paint color. The purple undertones and whisper of beige in it give Silver Satin a warm, cozy feeling.
As mentioned earlier, Silver Satin will look a bit warmer in southern facing light, and will likely pick up a bit more of the purple underton. In a northern facing room, the cool blue light will bring out the gray in Silver Satin.
What Colors Go With Benjamin Moore Silver Satin?
Silver Satin is a versatile paint color that goes well with a variety of shades. It can work with whites, browns, blacks, reds, pinks, purples, blues and darker grays that have similar undertones.
Benjamin Moore pairs Silver Satin with Cheating Heart, a charcoal paint color, and Nimbus Gray, a blue gray paint color.
A second possible color scheme for Silver Satin includes Clay, a lighter brown paint color, and Squirrel Tail, a medium grayish brown paint color.
Where Can I Use Benjamin Moore Silver Satin?
As you can see, Silver Satin is a good neutral paint color. It isn’t terribly fussy about what colors it goes with. This makes it a versatile shade for anywhere in the house.
Silver Satin works in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways, basements, bathrooms, kitchens and more.
You can also use Silver Satin on cabinets and furniture.
Silver Satin can also be used as an exterior color, but it may not be the best choice if you want a true gray exterior. This is because Silver Satin will look lighter outside than it does inside. The bright light of the sun can wash out the color in Silver Satin, making it look more like a soft white with a hint of color than a true gray.
Trim Colors for Benjamin Moore Silver Satin
Silver Satin is a light, warm, off-white paint color that looks good with crisper white paint colors. My favorite white paint colors for trim to pair with Silver Satin are Chantilly Lace and White Heron.
Silver Satin looks gorgeous next to Chantilly Lace. Chantilly Lace is one of my go-to Benjamin Moore white paint colors for trim. It is crisp and clean, without any noticeable undertones. It looks very bright and poses the most contrast next to Silver Satin.
If you like a softer white paint color for your trim, check out White Heron. This white paint color still works with Silver Satin, but is a little less crisp.
Silver Satin Compared
When I look at a paint color, I always like to compare it to other paint colors that have similar uses or are in the same color family.
This is typically helpful for readers who are trying to decide between different paint shades.
Since Silver Satin is a gray paint color, I’m going to compare it to other popular gray paint colors by Benjamin Moore. So, let’s look at Silver Satin compared to Classic Gray, Pale Oak and Gray Owl.
Silver Satin vs. Classic Gray
Classic Gray is a popular gray paint color by Benjamin Moore. Classic Gray has more beige in it than Silver Satin, and really is more of a greige paint color than a true gray.
This makes Classic Gray a bit more neutral and versatile than Silver Satin. It is more of a transitional shade that will play nicely with a variety of other colors in the room.
Classic Gray and Silver Satin have nearly identical LRVs. This means that they will both show up in the space about the same.
In many ways, Silver Satin and Classic Gray are similar in their uses. The deciding factor between these two paint colors will be whether you want a true gray, or more of a greige look in your space.

Silver Satin vs. Pale Oak
Pale Oak is a second popular paint color by Benjamin Moore. It is similar to Silver Satin in some ways, but also has some important differences.
First, Silver Satin is a warm gray, while Pale Oak looks a bit more like a taupe paint color.
This is because Pale Oak also has more prominent beige undertones. This makes Pale Oak look a bit warmer than Silver Satin. It also makes Pale Oak look just a bit muddier than Silver Satin, whereas Silver Satin looks more silvery.
Second, Silver Satin has a higher LRV than Pale Oak. So Pale Oak looks a bit more saturated, but is still a very light paint color.
So, while both are warm grays, they have a bit of a different feel. Pale Oak can look more farmhouse, while Silver Satin can look more modern.

Silver Satin vs. Gray Owl
Gray Owl is the last popular gray Benjamin Moore paint color that will discuss today.
Gray Owl is a cool gray paint color. It has blue and green undertones. While Silver Satin doesn’t look terribly purple, you tend to see its undertones pop out a bit more when you compare it to Gray Owl.
Since Gray Owl is a cool paint color, it tends to recede into the background a bit more. Warm shades, such as Silver Satin, tend to feel a bit cozier in a room.
Additionally, Gray Owl has a lot more color to it than Silver Satin does. It will look darker and more saturated on your walls.
