Sherwin Williams Minimalist Paint Color Review

Minimalist, by Sherwin Williams, is a soft neutral shade that is growing in popularity. It is effortlessly sophisticated and easy on the eyes.

For many, Minimalist isn’t a shade that you have heard of before. This is because it is a part of the Designer Color Collection, which is a newer collection of colors the Sherwin Williams assembled as a special initiative to feature their designer-favorite colors.

Most of the shades in this fan deck are easy to use and very functional, and Minimalist is no exception.

So, lets dive into Minimalist and find out why it is popular right now, where to use it, and what colors go with it.

Sherwin Williams Minimalist Explained

Sherwin Williams Minimalist Paint Drop

Minimalist, SW 9611, is a neutral paint color that blends beige with a dose of gray for sophistication, and a green undertone for balance.

It is the kind of paint color that can anchor a whole house color scheme, or can be used in an individual room. Minimalist is understated, elegant, and calming. It feels simple in its approach, but not juvenile.

Sherwin Williams describes Minimalist as a beige neutral with a, “whisper of sophisticated warmth.” It invites you into the space without smothering you with too much warmth or color.

With an LRV of 52, Minimalist falls into the light medium range of paint colors. It isn’t so light that it will get washed out in a room with lots of natural sunlight, but also isn’t so dark that it will feel domineering in a room with average light.

Minimalist is a great paint color for a living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom, or office. You can also use it on a home exterior, but be sure to recognize that it won’t look quite as dark on a home exterior due to the bright sunlight.

SW Minimalist works in many different styles of homes, including traditional, modern, farmhouse, Scandinavian, and more.

What Colors Coordinate With Sherwin Williams Minimalist?

Minimalist is a beige, so it goes well with other neutrals such as creams, lighter beiges with similar undertones, or soft pinks.

It also pairs nicely with blue greens, blue grays, browns, and blacks.

Sherwin Williams pairs Minimalist with:

  • Sunbleached, an off-white with a hint of gray and pink
  • Breakwater, a blue gray green blend
  • Night Out, a darker grayish blue

It also works with dark reds like Carnelian, or soft pinks like Cultured Pearl.

Trim Colors for Sherwin Williams Minimalist

Minimalist can work alongside several of Sherwin Williams whites, but one of my favorite trim colors to pair with Minimalist is Pure White.

Pure White is a great trim color because it works with most any wall shade. It is light and bright but not too stark. It will provide lots of contrast with Minimalist.

If you want a trim color that is a bit softer, check out Snowbound. Snowbound has a more creamy look to it, and will work nicely alongside Minimalist.

Be warned though, Snowbound is a little less forgiving with the paint colors you pair it with, so if you’re going to want to change your wall color without updating the trim color, Pure White is a much better choice.

Final Thoughts on Minimalist

SW Minimalist is a great modern beige. It doesn’t have too much red, pink or orange undertones that make it look dated. Plus, it isn’t too light or too dark. It does have a fair amount of depth, but many spaces can handle it.

Minimalist creates a sophisticated setting for other furnishings and accents without overpowering the room with color.

If you are interested in a beige paint color that isn’t airy but also isn’t dark, Minimalist might strike just the right note for your space.
