Socialite, by Sherwin Williams, Paint Color Review

Sherwin Williams Socialite is a purple paint color that is currently trending on Pinterest. And while purple isn’t my usual go-to shade for a paint color, I am seriously falling in love with this shade right now.

Sherwin Williams includes it in their Neutrals collection, and while it does have a neutral quality to it, most people will find that it looks like a color to them.

Given that browns are really in style right now, it is no surprise that warm colors that coordinate with browns are gaining in popularity.

In addition, taupes have been coming into favor, and since a taupe is a neutral with a pink or purple undertone, I feel like it was only a matter of time before paint trends embraced a more true purple.

So, now that you know why its trending, let’s do a deep dive into this purple paint color.

Socialite, SW 6025, is a midtone purple paint color that I would describe as a dusty plum shade.

Along with the warm purple masstone, it also has gray and pink undertones.

Altogether, these tones blend to make a sophisticated sort of purple shade that looks luxurious and mature. Hedging towards bold, but not dramatic.

Socialite has an LRV of 20. This means that it is a medium dark paint color. It has a good amount of depth and requires adequate lighting to make it really look its best. In a room that doesn’t have as much lighting, Socialite can look a bit dull.

Socialite Sherwin Williams Facts: Color - purple; undertones - gray and pink; LRV - 20; trim color - Pure White or Snowbound; Coordinating Colors - Breathless, Dreamy White, White Duck, Modern Gray, Tea Leaf

Because Socialite is a warm shade, it will look more pink purple in rooms with southern or western light. In rooms with north or east facing windows, you may see it look more like a grayish purple.

If you’re not sure what type of lighting you have in your room, don’t worry. I recommend picking up a sample of this color so you can try it in different places in the room where you want to use it before making a giant purple mistake (and getting a lot of grief from your spouse!).

Where To Use Sherwin Williams Socialite

Socialite is a paint color that will only work in some spaces. I wouldn’t recommend it as an all-over-the-house paint color for most people, because it just has too much depth and color to work everywhere.

But in areas that you want to give a maximalist vibe, such as an office, bedroom, or accent wall, it can be an amazing touch of color.

I love Socialite for these uses because it is luxe without being punchy. It draws you in and makes you want to stay without being too passive.

Socialite goes best with light neutrals with feminine undertones, dark neutral such as black, brown or navy, and light pinks with similar undertones.

For example, Sherwin Williams pair Socialite with Dreamy White, a very light pinkish taupe, White Duck, a neutral off-white, and Breathing, a light pink with a touch of gray.

Altogether, this color palette is a gorgeous choice for a space that you want to give a feminine vibe.

If you want to use Socialite in a room such as an office or living room, you can pair it with Modern Gray, a very light taupe that favors gray, and Tea Leaf, a deep brown.

These colors bring some neutral tones into the space and let Socialite take the stage as the main color in the room.

For trim paint colors, I recommend going with a clean white shade such as Pure White. If you want a trim color with a little less brightness and a bit more softness, Snowbound would be a good color alongside Socialite.

Is Socialite the Right Color for You?

Socialite is a great purple… and that isn’t something that I say a lot when I’m talking about purple paint colors. If you are ready for a true color in your home, Socialite is a good one to consider.

If you want a purple thats a little more neutral, SW Cocoa Berry is a nice option. Or, if you want a purple that is a little more purple, SW Ruby Violet may be more your style.

Overall though, Socialite is a nice middle ground because it is a true purple, but has nice neutral gray undertones that give it a mature look.
