No-Fail Interior Paint Color Schemes For Every Home

Choosing an interior paint color scheme can be a really difficult task for the average homeowner.

Questions like, “Do these colors go together?”, “How do the colors flow from the hallways to the rooms?” and, “What is all this talk about undertones?” begin to bring up doubts and can sometimes stop the painting process altogether.

The good news is, you don’t have come up with a color scheme all on your own.

Here is a round up of some of my favorite interior color schemes for the home.

Warm Neutral Color Scheme

If you are looking for a warm neutral color scheme for your home, Benjamin Moore Ballet White is a great place to start.

Ballet White is a very light beige that looks sophisticated and calming. It can work as a whole house color that creates a foundation for the rest of you home.

For adjacent rooms, pair it with White Dove, a lighter, soft off-white that works beautifully on walls or cabinets.

For a bit a depth, Pashmina can bring a warm ambiance to adjacent rooms. Altogether, these colors will create a seamless flow between spaces.

Cool Neutral Color Scheme

If you like a cool neutral color scheme, check out White Heron, Silver Song and Sweatshirt Gray.

These colors have cool undertones, meaning they will work well with blues, greens, and other cool tones such as marble.

White Heron is a good foundational color, with adjacent rooms or cabinets in Silver Song. Sweatshirt Gray brings a bit more depth to the palette, creating balance. It works well on fireplaces, woodwork, or cabinets.

Coastal Color Scheme

If you want a carefree, coastal sort of vibe in your space, here is a color scheme featuring Sherwin Williams Watery.

Watery is a midtone blue that goes looks beautiful on walls. While it isn’t my top choice for an all-over-the-house color, it is amazing in accent spaces like bathrooms, bedrooms, or even a living room or kitchen.

For a foundational color that goes in main spaces, I would choose Shell White or Glimmer. These soft neutrals will anchor the space. For an accent color, you can use Aged White in adjacent rooms or on cabinets.

Modern Organic Color Scheme

If you want a color scheme that has both warm and cool paint colors with a slightly organic vibe, check out these coordinating colors for Popular Gray.

Popular Gray is a warm neutral that is the perfect depth for an all-over-the-house shade.

It pairs with many soft neutrals such as Snowbound, Incredible White and Perfect Gray. Any of these shades work well in common living spaces, bedrooms or other rooms.

For a more feminine look in a space such as a bedroom, you can use either Malted Milk or Dressy Rose. For a more masculine room, you can use Privilege Green as a mature pop of color.

In addition to being a good wall color, Snowbound can also work on trim.

Modern Traditional Color Scheme

I call this the modern traditional color scheme, but really, there is something in here for everyone.

If you want a warm, earthy color scheme, you can pair Dried Thyme, Grecian Ivory, Prairie Grass and Cabbage Rose together.

If you want a traditional color scheme, you can pair Naval, Dried Thyme and Grecian Ivory together.

For a balanced color scheme, you can pair Naval, Cabbage Rose, Austere Gray, Ethereal White and Dried Thyme together.

For a nautical color scheme, you can pair Upward, Naval and Ethereal White.

The combinations are almost endless.

Navy and Blush Color Scheme

For a refined masculine/feminine look, you can pair Hale Navy, a dark navy blue, with Proposal, a soft blush pink. These colors bring balance and sophistication to a home, evoking a classic, tailored feel.

For a coordinating neutral, you can use White Dove, a soft off-white on walls or cabinets. For a neutral with a little more depth, Balboa Mist gives a warm comfort to the palette.

To use this in a home, I would recommend Balboa Mist as your foundational color, White Dove as an accent room or cabinet/woodwork color, and Proposal or Hale Navy in your bedrooms or office space. Hale Navy can also work on cabinets, fireplaces, or woodwork.

Minimalist Color Scheme

For a bit of a more funky vibe, this color scheme combines a soft brownish black, Black Fox, with neutrals and a pop of cool green.

As an interior color scheme, I would recommend using Eider White or Greek Villa as a foundational color, Black Fox as an accent shade on woodwork, fireplaces, or cabinets, and Cool Avocado on inaccent spaces.

To make this color scheme work, you will have to pull the Cool Avocado green color throughout the space with throw pillows or artwork. This will make the space look intentional and well designed.

Cozy Color Scheme

The cozy color scheme modern, sophisticated and inviting. It combines Snowbound, a soft, feminine off-white, with Colonnade Gray, a slightly darker warm neutral, and Autumn Orchid, a grayish purple.

Either Snowbound or Colonnade Gray work well as a foundational color, with the other shade acting as a complimentary shade in adjacent rooms. Autumn Orchid provides a mature pop of color to give a soft, cozy ambiance.

Like in the previous color scheme, you will want to repeat the purple color throughout your space with pillows, artwork, pottery, etc. so the space feels intentional.
