If you are ready to repaint your exterior, including your shutters, siding, trim or doors, but aren’t sure what color to pick, take a look at Sherwin Williams’ top 20 exterior paint colors.
The paint colors on this list are the ones that sold most frequently by Sherwin Williams.
This means that both homeowners and designers like these paint colors, and that they work really well on home exteriors.
But first, we need discuss one important point about using paint colors on a home exterior.
Do Paint Colors Look Different Outside?
Yes, paint colors tend to take on a slightly different look when they are used outside. The bright sun makes colors look lighter, and oftentimes warmer as well.
This mean that you should always sample the paint color that you choose before you paint. A color that may look amazing in the indoor light may take on a purple or green look outside. This can be due to undertones, the other colors that are around, or the bright sunlight.
I go way more in depth about each exterior paint color in individual blog posts, so if you want to learn more about any of the paint colors, be sure to click on the links provided.

Tricorn Black is a classic black paint color. It is my favorite Sherwin Williams black paint color, and clearly, I’m not alone since it is one of the top 20 exterior paint colors sold by Sherwin Williams.
Tricorn Black doesn’t have any offensive undertones. It won’t be too blue, too green or too anything else. It just looks like a traditional black paint color.
You can use it on trim, front doors, garage doors, shutters and more. I don’t see too many homes with their siding painted Tricorn Black, but you could use if for this purpose as well if you want a really dark black siding color.
